VINTAGE DISHTOWELS

I can’t get enough vintage kitchen stuff. My best guess is it all started when I was really little and helping my Grandma in the kitchen. I loved it so much, being with her and making pies, noodles, caramel corn and processing all the stuff from the garden in the summers. I used to spend hours rearranging and organizing her stuff in her kitchen cabinets. I would wash every spice jar and put them all back perfectly lined up. She loved it. When she passed away I got several of her old kitchen bowls and some other odds and ends of hers. It’s the smallest, strangest things that can stir up a tidal wave of emotions about your most loved ones. I will always remember her, so kind and wonderful, teaching me in the kitchen, and me not even realizing she was teaching me the biggest things in life.

PAINTINGS BY ROGER MILEY

My husband is amazingly talented. He would never admit it, or take a bit of credit for it though. I guess some of the best artists are probably the same. It makes you wonder how many wonderful things never get seen, because the artist never puts it out there. I love his art and crack him up, because the minute he does something I ‘take possession’ of it and assume it was for me! I even freaked out when a few friends requested pieces from him and was like, “OK, but I get the original, they only get a copy!” I didn’t win for once though, and he did do a painting for them. He has a ton of work that I will be adding here as I get photographs taken.

Blue Bird Toffees

This is one of the things I love. When my husband and I got married we spent a lot of our Florida honeymoon wandering in and out of all the funky, eclectic shops along the beach. One day we found this crazy little store, called The Pink Flamingo, off in a little hidden area by the highway, but surrounded by tons of trees. The woman had things really crammed in this tiny little store and it was all stuff I love, vintage kitchen, childrens items, clothes and jewelry, etc. I got a few things and at the counter, I saw this in the display and loved it! I love old tins and blue birds, all birds actually, but it was $18 so I had her put it back, but then of course,  had her get it back out, and bought it. It was a lot to me, but you don’t find one of these every day and it is one of those ‘cross-collector’ items that I know appeals to a lot of people, so I figured I could always just re-sell it if I was broke and hungry someday. I hope I never have to, though!

What will I see in ‘things that I love’?

I love a LOT of things. First and foremost- Life, and the blessing that it is, equaled only by family. You will here a bit about that here, but most of that is deep within my heart, and I like to keep it light on the blog, you know.

*What you will see here will be fun posts highlighting vintage everything, crafty things, food, and some miscellaneous things for interest, because I love me some old stuff, crafty stuff, and delicious stuff!
